Pinball Profile: Interview with Robert Mueller, Quinn Johnson and Steven Bowden
Pinball Profile was joined last week by Robert Mueller, Quinn Johnson, and Steven Bowden from deeproot Pinball – here is just one highlight:
On Downloadable Content (DLC):
Steve Bowden: Just think about it this way. With RAZA, I have my ruleset in that is being built in. But what if I got another bite of the apple? From scratch, what would happen? Not to say I haven’t already thought about that bite of the apple already [laughs]…but given what you’re gonna see with the RAZA ruleset up to this point, and continuing with this version, lets just call it version A for giggles. What if there was a version B…which changed the entire game but used the same playfield. But changed the entire thing. Not a “director’s cut”…a completely different [game]…that is something that could be offered as downloadable content for RAZA.
They also discuss RAZA innovations, talk about RAZA coming to life, talk about letting the product speak for itself, talk about the storyboarding on RAZA and a future games, talk about the Pinbar and all the features with that and the importance of the Pinbar, the touch screens and the user interface, talk about the Pinbar being the most challenging thing with production and creating it, talk about the new ramp and the changes with that, talk about PinAccess and their future plans for that, talk about the shot log on games, talk about the glass lifting feature, discuss customization of games, talk about the games playing the same on all models, talk about the mechanized toppers that will be coming, talk about DLC, talk about going from research and development to a manufacturing company, talk about listening to constructive criticism, talk about the UL certification, talk about limiting the RAZA orders to a certain time period, talk about working with distributors, talk about Zidware customers, and much more.

Pinball Magazine / Pinball News podcast: Interview with Robert Mueller
Robert Mueller also joined the guys at the Pinball News and Pinball Magazine Podcast last week – here are just a couple highlights:
On production time:
Robert: It is going to take us 4-6 weeks as we ramp up these lines. And we really [focus on quality] and have a machine and really look it over and make sure things are where we need them to be before it hits a customers house or a location…so it is going to be very slow at first.
Pinball News: You said you wouldn’t be taking preorders and would only take payment up front when game was ready, but now you’re taking preorders and asking for deposits and/or full payments, why the change of heart?
Robert: I don’t know that it is a change of heart, I probably said that a long long time ago when things were very different and I had a very, probably more bullish idea of how things would get here. Any money that is coming in from customers right now in full payments or deposits is being held in an account. It isn’t being used to buy parts, its not being used to pay payroll…I don’t consider what we’re doing now a pre-order. A pre-order is – hey give me the money because I go out and I can’t buy the parts and I can’t do anything without that money…we haven’t called this a pre-order and it isn’t a preorder.
On manufacturing:
Robert: So we’re in San Antonio Texas and that is where the manufacturing facility is. The six guests that were here back in September saw the areas that were partially set up but not fully making any games at that point…that since has changed, so we have places…for inventory and prep work, and packages that will be given to the quads. We have a place to create the cabinet and populate it…for the assembly of the playfields…then we have the shipping and receiving…the quads themselves are very different in how we get the playfields populated. But the rest of the areas are pretty similar. We’ve decided now to show pictures…of what we’re doing…it is a trade secret…so we haven’t shown that.
Robert also talks about supply chain issues, talks about limiting the order time, talks about the different models of RAZA, talks about prices, talks about the Houston show, talks about the Pinbar, talks about BOM, talks about the launch of the website, talks about Bally Williams games, talks about working with distributors, talks about trouble shooting and trying to make the games more consumer oriented, talks about Octo manufacturing being a joke, talks about UL certification, talks about deeproot Studios, talks about future titles, talks about Goonies and the features of Goonies, and that Barry Oursler is the designer of the designer of Goonies, talks about announcing upcoming titles, talks about the playfield clear coat, talks about codes in the game, talks about DLC, talks about internet connectivity, talks about possible next titles, shared that Food Truck is next, talks about the deeproot GI lighting definition and what that entails, talks about what he Pinbar screen protector is, talks about the speakers and the audio experience, talks about digital/virtual pinball, talks about licenses, talks about pinball being hard, and much more.

Buffalo Pinball: Chat Crashes the Party
This is a a crazy example of the Twitch-Connect feature on Heist. What happens in the video is that Kevin Manne from Buffalo Pinball is playing Heist, and viewers and people in the chat donated enough bits to activate a Twitch-Connect feature – in this case, the viewers inverted the flippers. Crazy!!
